Alone With You - Irv Orton Orchestra (1958)

Thanks to our friend, Suffering Fools, for sending us this very interesting, and very obscure slice of Easy Listening!

With no date on it, we have had to rely on the web for information, and some sites give this as 1958, some as 1962.

From the album's sound, I think it is more 50's than 60's, in stereo too, with influences ranging from Big Band / Swing, Classical, Musical / Movie soundtrack, contemporary Light music and orchestral Easy listening!

A track listing consisting of all originals, composed and conducted by Irv Orton himself, from the sleeve notes, it would appear that this was meant to be a sort of Easy listening concept album!

I hope you enjoy it and please comment if you do, or if you have any more information on this obscure gem!

  2. Thanks for this rare album. It is indeed from 1958 (LRP 3069/LST7016) and it is the only album he made solo. In 1955 it was the orchestra behind Helen O' Connell. I find one album 'The uncollected Helen O'Connell' on Hindsight records released in 1986. Definitely copies of 78 rpm tracks. But I think this is a great album.

  3. Does anyone know more about Irv Orton or his career? IMDB doesn't show any film or TV work for him except as musical director for a 1960 game show called "About Faces."

  11. Irv was my grandfather. An amazing man! He got out of the music business I think in the early 60s. He played the piano everyday for at least an hour for the rest of his life and I was privy to his superb playing a countless number of hours. He was working on a musical later in his life that unfortunately did not get produced.

  15. I just started listening to a Helen O'Connell with Irv Orton's Orchestra album titled "Uncollected" from 1955. It is on Spotify. I was interested in learning about Irv Orton and found little online about him.
