The Don Lusher Collection (1976)

An excellent collection of big band lounge from one of Britain's finest trombonists and arrangers.

An eclectic selection of repertoire, my highlight is Don Lusher's own library classic, Carnaby Chick, a different recording and better arrangement to the more commonly available Amphonic version, or the Harry Roche Constellation version!

50 minutes long, it is a great listen with its blend of two different types of band with his quartet playing the the quiet, loungey tracks, and the big band playing with energy on the rest of the album.

The rear of the sleeve contains much interesting information and synopsis in it with full recording and band personnel details.

Featuring some nice scat vocals, organ, guitar, and strings, it has more than its share of smooth orchestral originals, is a great listen, and I recommend it strongly!

Girl Talk - Button Down Brass / Ray Davies

I do not normally post CD compilations, but after the comments on my recent Button Down Brass library LP post, I thought it would be good to post this very nice collection of the Pye years of Ray Davies.

All the great Button Down originals are here, such as Heavy Water, Mach 1, Hadrian's Wall, Martinique, and Truckin', with some nice covers, too.

I didn't know what I was getting with this one, when I found it recently in a charity shop. But I took a chance on it anyway, as it was so ridiculously cheap.

I was expecting another typical Hawaiian guitar album, a genre I'm not paticularly keen on, but the clue should've been the name Martin Denny. It is truly amazing! A terrific mix of exotica and 60s beat a go go!

The arrangement on "Call Me" is virtually the same as the excellent Chris Montez version and is typical of the arrangements on Side 1. On side 2 tracks are more sedate exotica, but still very satisfying.

Vinyl is in excellent condition, so please do enjoy!
