Dance Dance Dance - Various Artists (1982)

Fine selection of pop medleys from the early 1980's.

Of particular mention is the "Hot Licks" medley by The Silhouettes, a medley of classic 60's hits by The Shadows.

It is not my usual kind of post, but it could be used at a New Year's Eve party perhaps, and to celebrate 1 million hits!

I'd Have To Say... The Best Of The Beatles - Various Artists (ELW Compilation)

I was very glad I was able to see the moment this morning that Easy Listening World reached one million hits!

So, to celebrate, here is a compilation I have been planning for some time, a simple premise, the greatest songs of the fab four by some of the most and least well-known names in the Easy Listening World of the 60s and 70s!

Many of the tracks are from albums previously shared here, some are from other compilations, and a few are from albums shared on other blogs, so thanks to them for those, with particular thanks for the original inspiration to start my blog in January 2008 to Lounge Legends, Lemoncat and Vinyl Room amongst many others!

The title, incidentally, comes from what UK comedy character Alan Partridge said when asked, "What's your favourite Beatles album?".

I hope you enjoy it and please comment if you do! This, more than anything, is what keeps the blog going!

Caballero! - Denis Lopez Liquid Latin Sound (1971)

Here is a fabulous album from the great percussionist, Denis Lopez.

A nice blend of latin and funk, I was so pleased to find this album, sounding in fine condition!

I am only aware of one other Denis Lopez album, Cinnamon Rock, however his name crops up on so many other classic Easy albums from names including John Schroeder and Ray Davies / Button Down Brass.

The Beatles covers have been on the compilation, Take It Easy: The Fab Four Go Loungecore, an album I can highly recommend if you can get it!

I hope you enjoy it and please comment if you do!

We are getting very close to 1 million visits to this site, and when we get there, I have some very special posts, including two new ELW compilations, and more albums that have disappeared from view over the close to 7 years this blog has been active!

Music For Celebrating Special Occasions and Party Dances with Sydney Thompson (1973)

Here is another one of those nostalgic albums of party dances etc. from Sydney Thompson.

There is quite a bit of background noise on the second side, but I do not think this detracts from the listener's enjoyment.

I have posted all three of the other party albums as seen on the reverse of the sleeve, so I was pleased to find this one, too!

Delightfully old-fashioned, even for 1973, it is worth hearing thanks to tracks on the first side such as nice versions of Popcorn, Oom Pah Pah,and Shine On Harvest Moon, but the highlight here is the original, Let's Merge.

I hope you enjoy it and please comment if you do!

Tuff Guitar English Style (Stereo) - Al Caiola (1965)

In my previous post, this album was generously provided by Suffering Fools, but it was the mono version. I appealed for anyone who had the stereo version, and with big thanks to DIDI, here it is!

I know that mono has its charms for recordings of a certain age, but I do feel that stereo makes the music somehow feel more alive!

Love Is Blue - Living Marimbas (1968)

Another fine album from our friend Suffering Fools, this is a mix of film soundtrack tunes, one TV soundtrack, and some standards and traditional themes.

Another quality rip, the album has some top orchestral arrangements, with the melodies played on the marimba. It is a nice blend of instruments and makes for very Easy Listening!

Thanks again to Suffering Fools for all his effort bringing this album to us, I hope you enjoy it and please comment if you do!

Tuff Guitar English Style - Al Caiola (1965)

Here is another fine album from our friend Suffering Fools.

Another from the Easy guitar man, Al Caiola, it features a blend of classic 60s pop songs with some other very good selections, including an original from Al himself!

Released in the UK under the title Tuff Guitar British Style (presumably not to offend Scottish music fans), I love the blend of guitar and brass on this, and although this is the mono version, it is nonetheless a very enjoyable listen!

Should anybody out there have the stereo version of this album, please share it with us!

Thanks again to Suffering Fools for all his time and effort bringing us another great album, and please leave him a comment if you enjoy it!

Nice 'N' Easy Volume 5 - Various Artists (1976)

Here is the fifth, and I believe final volume of this fine UK Easy sampler album series.

Very much John Gregory's album (as the Cascading Strings and the John Gregory Orchestra, with undoubtedly Ray Davies on trumpet), dominating the track list, along with favourites like Ray Davies's Button Down Brass, Syd Lawrence, and Ray McVay.

The usual blend of standards and contemporary pop hits, it is well worth a listen.

I have other "sampler" albums such as Soft And Easy and Take It Easy among others which will be coming up very soon!

I see that the visitor counter on my blog is getting close to the million, so as it approaches, I will be preparing some extra special posts, including another themed ELW compilation!

I hope you enjoy this album, and please comment if you do!

Steel Band Limbo Twist - The Invaders & Kintups Steel Bands (1962)

Here is another curiosity from our friend Suffering Fools, a steel band album from the early 60's.

From Suffering Fools:
"If Moon River played on steel drums is your idea of Easy Listening, then this is your baby!"

Thanks are again due to him for all his time and effort bringing this and other great albums to us!

Roman Spectacular - Charles Magnante And His Orchestra (1958)

Another nice selection by our friend Suffering Fools, this has full orchestra and accordion playing a programme of traditional Italian melodies.

It's very different, a slightly older album than the usual for this blog, but sounding great and still well worth a listen!

Thanks to Suffering Fools for all his effort bringing this fine album to us, I hope you enjoy it and please comment of you do!

Tuff Guitar - Al Caiola (1965)

Here is a very nice Easy guitar album from Al Caiola courtesy of our friend Suffering Fools, who is sending me so many great albums to share at the moment!

The combination of guitar lead and full orchestra is a 60's sound I enjoy very much, and this one is well worth a listen, with its very varied track listing, moving from Rock 'N Roll classics to movie soundtracks with ease.

My favourite track is the marvellous version of the Fab Four's A Hard Day's Night which can be previewed below.

Thanks to Suffering Fools once again for his time and effort bringing this one and many others to us, please comment if you enjoy it!

Music To Watch Birds By - The Bob Crewe Generation (1967)

Here, reposted today in tribute to the great Bob Crewe who has died at the age of 83, is this groovy trip back to the swinging sixties filled with brass, strings, and wonderful light 60s beat grooves.

The follow-up to the classic album Music To Watch Girls By, all 10 tracks are fantastic and I give this my highest rating!

I hope you enjoy it and please commment if you do!

Rest in peace, Bob!

Nice 'N' Easy - Various Artists (1972)

In readiness of the other four volumes of this UK Easy sampler series coming here to ELW, here is a repost of the original album, first posted here almost three years ago, and long since unavailable.

Featuring a host of Easy stars such as Chaquito, Ray McVay, and Paul Mauriat, it is a fine sampler for the smooth Easy sound of the '70s, with a mixture of traditional Easy fare, Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head, Lara's Theme, Love Story etc., and Easy pop tracks such as Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep, Aquarius, I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing.

My highlight, however, is the best version of In The Mood I have ever heard; the energy in the arrangement and playing really is something else!

I hope you enjoy it and please comment if you do!

Mellow - Las Suavitas Guitars

Here we have another album courtesy of our friend from the US, Suffering Fools, who seems to have a knack of finding some great and obscure American Easy albums!

This is a collection of 22 (!) tracks given very simple and light latin guitar arrangements.

My pick is Frenesi, a song I like to hear in any arrangement!

Thanks again to S.F. for the album, and if you download and enjoy, please leave a comment for him, as all the credit is his on this one!

9 To 5 - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (1980)

After Dolly Parton's magnificent triumph at Glastonbury this weekend, here is one of the few related albums I have.

The very hard to find soundtrack album from the classic comedy movie, featuring the main and end title versions of the very famous Dolly Parton song, with some excellent incidental music written by Charles Fox.

Aside from the title song, my picks are Office Montage, Charlie's Bar, and Easy Time.

I hope you enjoy it and please comment if you do!

Unforgettable Melodies - Various Artists

There has been a lack of posts recently, so to make up for this here is a nice compilation featuring some fine Easy acts of the 60s and 70s, Franck Pourcel, Ron Goodwin, and Geoff Love as both himself and as Manuel And The Music Of The Mountains.

I was surprised not to see this in any mp3 download shops, so here it is!

I hope you enjoy it and please comment if you do!

Alone With You - Irv Orton Orchestra (1958)

Thanks to our friend, Suffering Fools, for sending us this very interesting, and very obscure slice of Easy Listening!

With no date on it, we have had to rely on the web for information, and some sites give this as 1958, some as 1962.

From the album's sound, I think it is more 50's than 60's, in stereo too, with influences ranging from Big Band / Swing, Classical, Musical / Movie soundtrack, contemporary Light music and orchestral Easy listening!

A track listing consisting of all originals, composed and conducted by Irv Orton himself, from the sleeve notes, it would appear that this was meant to be a sort of Easy listening concept album!

I hope you enjoy it and please comment if you do, or if you have any more information on this obscure gem!

Harold Smart At The Thomas Organ (1976)

A name I have not heard before, Harold Smart's album is a good demonstration of this organ, with some nice arrangements, and interesting descriptions of the pieces on the rear from the man himself!

I hope you enjoy it and please comment if you do!

16 All-Time Orchestral Chartbusters - Various Artists (1973)

Very nice compilation from the EMI archives.

Featuring Easy Listening World favourites Joe Loss, Geoff Love and Manuel and more, this album is very entertaining and well worth a listen!

Another favourite Ray Davies can be heard providing the trumpet solo on the preview track below by Ken Thorne and his Orchestra.

I hope you enjoy it and please comment if you do!
