The Don Lusher Collection (1976)

An excellent collection of big band lounge from one of Britain's finest trombonists and arrangers.

An eclectic selection of repertoire, my highlight is Don Lusher's own library classic, Carnaby Chick, a different recording and better arrangement to the more commonly available Amphonic version, or the Harry Roche Constellation version!

50 minutes long, it is a great listen with its blend of two different types of band with his quartet playing the the quiet, loungey tracks, and the big band playing with energy on the rest of the album.

The rear of the sleeve contains much interesting information and synopsis in it with full recording and band personnel details.

I hope you enjoy it and please comment, leaving your name, if you do!

  3. Thanks Mark for this one, I had this myself, and a friend stored many of my album to save me space, so I wonder if he kept this one and didn't give me it back for whatever reason :-)

  6. Thank you for this. Good to hear another version of C. Chick but not to my ears a better one. Different yes, but not as 'soulful, if that's a word.

  9. This is a great record with lots of prominent musicians in the band. The typewriter on trombone is a first for me. On Les Filles de Paris Don Lusher plays the trio from a famous march but I can´t remember the name of it!
    Thank You for sharing!

  10. I met Don Lusher as he was a friend of a friend of my family and he also supplied my first trombone (that I owned myself). The day I got that trombone, I went to his house to pick it up and he kindly gave me one of his own signature mouthpieces to go with it. Co-incidentally, the same evening he was playing a gig locally - I went and got a copy of this album which he signed for me. Sadly, it's long since lost so it was great to find this and hear that album again. He was a great player and a very kind and generous man.

  13. Hi Mark, how you doing?

I wonder what happened to the Without a Song track as there appears to be some kind of data interference audible especially during the quiet piece at the beginning?

Yes, its taken me this amount of time to notice that lol.
